So I was in the store the other day and found a blu-ray player that was playing on a TV with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Now I always thought that blu-ray discs had a nice picture and all on full HD, but what I saw was beyond a great picture. It looked real. I know that sounds a bit cliche but it looked freaking real! The make-up was very apparent on anybody u saw (movie makeup for like star trek and stuff, not the typical stuff they put on all actors) It looked as if you were watching a play up close just with a frame of a tv around it. It was incredible. In my lifetime the following formats have made a difference
VHS vs Beta Winner : VHS
Tapes to CD Gotta loves CD’s
VHS to Laser disc : Nice to have digital but not feasible
VHS to DVD : We all know what happened here, more movies on the shelf and better picture and sound
DVD to Hi-Def: Like going from VHS to DVD
Hi-Def to Hi-Def with a faster refresh rate TV: WOW!
Now. . . . onto the want part;
I have been trying to convince Wendy of the necessity of owning a Blu-Ray Player. Now the way I figure it, why not own a PVR (exactly like DVR or TIVO w/o the monthly fee) as well as linking all other media through one place. I’m talking about a new computer of course. I’ve been looking into this for quite awhile and have actually found some incredible deals on a few machines. Here’s the deal, the wife is putting her foot down quite hard on this. Now I believe in living within my means. I really do, and I think we have done so for the most part. Now I’m not asking for a TV (yet), but I look at is as a means to effectively communicate with family and a great chance for geneology (since we’d be able to put large amounts of content like photos, videos etc onto a very large hard drive. Plus the joy of spending once in a while as a family for a movie. With movie prices the way they are and the amount of media Jeff has on his computer, it is definitely cheaper to stay home. So why not a new computer??
