Trains

I used to think that trains were kind of neat.  As a kid I counted the cars whenever I saw one and thought it was cool the hear the whistle just like any other kid.  Upon my coming to Spokane, I hardly ever see the trains but we hear them ALL the time from our apartment.  I am now over any fascination I may have had with trains.  We hear them throughout the day and they blow their whistles much of the night.  Saying “whistle” does not do the actual sound justice but it sounds weird to say that a train has a fog horn.  I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t have a baby that I would really like to sleep through the night.  Most of the time they do not wake her up but every once in a while there will be a really loud one that will wake everyone up with a start, like last night.  It always figures that the really loud ones are at night and it’s not just a “toot toot!” its a long drawn out bellowing.  Like its saying “no, I’m not going to stop until I know there is no way your baby is still asleep.”  When looking for a house I now know that I don’t want to live anywhere near a place where trains are close by.
